- Melissa and Brad Goldsmith, of Craig, are pleased to announce the birth of their daughter, Emerson Ann Goldsmith, at 3:50 p.m. on Oct. 21, 2012, at The Memorial Hospital in Craig. The baby weighed 8 pounds, 11 ounces and measured 19-3/4 inches in length. Maternal grandparents are Robin Whaley and Beth Steele, of Sevierville, Tenn., and David and Linda Whaley, of Dandridge, Tenn. Paternal grandparents are John and Gail Goldsmith, of Craig. The baby was welcomed home by a brother, Cyrus Goldsmith.

The baby weighed 8 pounds, 5.3 ounces and measured 20 inches in length. Maternal grandparents are Dean Ray Atwood and Penni Atwood, both of Vernal, Utah. - Mia Revoir and Jeff Gustafson, of Craig, are pleased to announce the birth of their daughter, Hailyn Jae Gustafson, at 7:03 p.m. on Oct. 26, 2012, at the Memorial Hospital in Craig. The baby weighed 8 pounds, 4 ounces and measured 21 inches in length. Maternal grandparents are Ivey Wilson and Ryan Wilson, both of Montrose. Paternal grandparents are Andy Gustafson and Brenda Gustafson, both of Craig.
- Alma Valenzuela and Manuel Hernandez-Soto, of Craig, are pleased to announce the birth of their daughter, Valeria Alexia, at 9:39 a.m. on Oct. 19, 2012, at the Memorial Hospital in Craig. The baby weighed 7 pounds, and 6.5 ounces and measured 20-1/2 inches in length. Maternal grandparents are Raymundo Acuna and Erika Valenzuela, both of Craig. The baby was welcomed home by a sibling, Mia Alejandra.

- Pitkin landfill manager loses job over dead bear

- Pitkin County landfill manager Chris Hoofnagle is out of a job after an employee was cited for illegally hunting a bear on county property without a permit. According to the Aspen Daily News (http://tinyurl.com/9chfhgn ), two people, including a landfill employee, were cited by state wildlife officials for illegally killing a bear without a permit at the facility last month. The two men face large fines if convicted.
