Rig Count for Oct. 27, 2012

A count on oil and natural gas rigs, as of Friday, operating in Colorado, Wyoming and the U.S. overall, according to Baker Hughes, Inc., a Houston-based energy consulting company:

• Colorado has 63 rigs online — The same as Oct. 19, but 16 less than Oct. 28, 2011.

• Wyoming has 50 rigs online — The same as Oct. 19, but 6 less than Oct. 28, 2011.

• The U.S. has 1,826 rigs online — 13 less than Oct. 19, but 195 less than Oct. 28, 2011.

Of those rigs:

— 1,759 are working on land, 15 in inland waters, and 52 offshore.

— 1,408 are drilling for oil, 416 for natural gas.

— 209 wells are directional, 1,105 are horizontal, and 512 are vertical.

As of the close of trading Thursday:

• Crude oil closed down $6.05 from a week ago at $86.05 a barrel on the New York Mercantile Exchange.

• Colorado Southeast crude oil closed at $73.35 a barrel, $6 less than last week.

• Colorado Western crude oil closed at $72.88 a barrel, $6 less than last week.

• Wyoming Sweet crude oil closed at $77.05 a barrel, down $6.05 from last week.

• Natural gas closed down 16 cents from a week ago at $3.43 per 10,000 million British thermal units or MMBtu.
