GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. (AP) — Delta County commissioners have reaffirmed their approval of two egg-laying operations that some residents had challenged.
The commissioners had to reanalyze their decision after a judge found "abuse of discretion" in their original approvals of the 15,000-hen, cage-free farms.
The judge said commissioners should pay particular attention to whether the operations are compatible with the neighborhood and whether adjoining property values would be hurt. The Daily Sentinel reports (http://bit.ly/PPfPYk ) the commissioners found that because both supporting and contrary evidence was presented to them, no definitive conclusion could be made.
The judge said commissioners also had to consider whether the conditions placed on the applicant, Edwin Hostetler, were sufficient and whether county employees could monitor them. Commissioners said Monday nine inspections helped show the county had met that burden.

Question of the week
News this week showed snowpack in the Yampa River basin has reached 94 percent of median for the date. Do you think Moffat County is out of the woods as far as drought concerns?
