The Moffat County boys soccer team looked like a long shot to make the postseason, and the team’s slow start proved to be too much to overcome, as they were passed by for a playoff spot Sunday.
A Colorado High School Activities Association selection committee put together a 32-team bracket Sunday night, seeding the automatic qualifiers and wildcard teams, which were selected over the weekend.
Moffat County, which started the season 1-5 before finishing strong with a different roster and play-style, was 6-9 on the year. The Bulldogs were fourth in the Western Slope League final standings, but only three WSL teams were selected.
Coal Ridge (14-1) was seeded third while Basalt (9-4-1, ninth) and Roaring Fork (10-3-1, 17th) also made the playoffs.
The final wildcard team selected was Lake County, which was 7-7 this year, and was the fourth team taken from 3A’s Region 8.
Craig women’s hockey seeking members
The Puck Ewes women’s hockey team in Craig is looking for members to help fill its roster for the coming season.
The team, which plays in a league of teams from local cities, is short on players this year, and will have to drop out without more signups by the season’s start, team member Gayle Criswell said.
So Criswell and her teammates are looking for women of any ability level with an interest in playing or learning hockey. Criswell said they will take anyone ages 14 and up, but players younger than 18 would need parental consent to play.
The season starts in late October and goes through March, with game nights varying throughout.
The current members of the team have a limited amount of loaner hockey gear that would help cut costs for prospective new members.
For more information, call Criswell at 824-8048.
