In the complicated maze healthcare has become, it can be easy to become lost.
But there is help.
Betsy Packer, SHIP/SMP counselor for the Routt County Council on Aging, will be in Craig to help seniors on Medicare navigate their drug plans.
From 10 a.m. – 2 p.m. November 6 and December 4, Packer will be at the Colorado Northwestern Community College Bell Tower,
October 15 marks the beginning of open enrollment for Part D drug plans, which remains open until December 7.
She and other volunteers will be available to help seniors assess their needs and match them up with the best plans.
“You could be saving money with the right plan,” Packer said.
Packer said it’s important for seniors to review their drug plan every year to make sure they are on the best plan to meet their prescription needs.
“As we age our health may change, but the only time you can change your drug plan is during those two months,” Packer said. “So think ahead. Be proactive and look at what your needs are and what’s best for you.”
If someone feels their plan no longer works for them, Packer said they could change their plan with no penalties.
However, if you do not have a drug plan but are on Medicare, Packer warns there could be a penalty.
The informational sessions are free to attend but you must pre-register. For more information and help registering call (970) 819-6937. She encourages seniors to bring all their prescriptions with them to easily find a plan.
Packer is at the Bell Tower in Craig for general Medicare questions the first and third Tuesday of every month. She can address questions by appointment.
