Rig Count for Dec. 1, 2012

A count on oil and natural gas rigs, as of Friday, operating in Colorado, Wyoming and the U.S. overall, according to Baker Hughes, Inc., a Houston-based energy consulting company:
• Colorado has 56 rigs online — 1 less than Nov. 23, and 21 less than Dec. 2, 2011.
• Wyoming has 49 rigs online — 2 less than Nov. 23, and 3 less than Dec. 2, 2011.
• The U.S. has 1,811 rigs online — 6 less than Nov. 23, and 182 less than Dec. 2, 2011.
Of those rigs:
— 1,741 are working on land, 20 in inland waters, and 50 offshore.
— 1,386 are drilling for oil, 424 for natural gas.
— 193 wells are directional, 1,110 are horizontal, and 508 are vertical.
As of the close of trading Thursday:
• Crude oil closed down 89 cents from a week ago at $86.49 a barrel on the New York Mercantile Exchange.
• Colorado Southeast crude oil closed up $1.25 from a week ago at $75.35 a barrel.
• Colorado Western crude oil closed up $1.25 from a week ago at $74.88 a barrel.
• Wyoming Sweet crude oil closed down 68 cents from a week ago at $75.05 a barrel.
• Natural gas closed down 20 cents from a week ago at $3.70 per 10,000 million British thermal units or MMBtu.
