The winter sports teams get their seasons underway in earnest this weekend.
Every sport but boys basketball will have its first regular season competitions taking place sometime between Friday and Monday.
Moffat County High School girls basketball started its season with a tournament at Uintah High School in Vernal, Utah Friday afternoon. The freshman, JV and varsity teams each played one game yesterday and have two more today.
The Craig Midget Hockey team has two games today and two more tomorrow, taking on teams from Foothills, Hyland Hills, Littleton and Regis. They are the only team playing at home this weekend, with games at the Moffat County Ice Rink.
The MCHS girls swimming team swam at Glenwood Springs High School, and will attend a meet at Aspen High School today, to see how it stacks up against Western Slope competition.
Meanwhile, the wrestling team will be in Grand Junction, at a three team tournament at Colorado Mesa University.
Craig BCA Pool League week 10 standings
The Billiards Congress of America Pool League in Craig standings, updated through ten weeks of play. After taking a week off for the Thanksgiving holiday, the teams will get back at it this weekend.
Team Rehab is for Quitters reclaimed the top spot from Poke-n-Hope in the Sunday league, while both teams pulled away from third place Jean’s Angels. In the Monday league, Team Git-R-Done is back in the lead by just four points, after surrendering it and falling to third place in week nine.

Junior named Colorado Football Player of the Year
Christian McCaffrey of Valor Christian High School was named the 2012-13 Gatorade Colorado Football Player of the Year.
The junior running back from Valor Christian in Highlands Ranch scored 40 touchdowns during 2012 football season and has led his team to the 4A state championship game.
He was given the award for his athletic achievements as well as maintaining high academic standards and demonstrating exemplary character.
Open gym available at CMS twice a week
Craig Middle School’s basketball gym is open to the public two nights a week for the winter.
Anyone ages 15 and up is welcome to show up from 7-9 p.m. on Tuesdays and Thursdays. The gym is open for shooting around or playing pickup games.
No registration prior to the open gyms is required. There is a $2.50 fee to be collected at the door for each open gym, or a punch pass can be purchased.
The program began Nov. 13 and runs through Feb. 14.
