Youth basketball leagues for boys and girls from kindergarten through second grade are accepting registrations for the leagues, which start in February.

There is potential for six leagues, depending on the number of participants, which will play games on weeknight evenings. Boys leagues will play Mondays and Wednesdays while girls will play Tuesdays and Thursdays.

The league will focus on teaching players the basics: dribbling, passing, shooting and learning to play as part of a team.

Practices start Feb. 11. Anyone registering after Jan. 9 will be placed on a waitlist with no guarantee of being put on a team.

Registration open for Trailbusters 2013

Registration is now available for the 2013 Trailbusters skiing and snowboarding beginner courses.

Local youth ages 6 to 15 can sign up from now through Jan. 7 to learn how to ski or snowboard. Trailbusters will travel to Steamboat Springs for five Saturdays starting Jan. 19 (excluding Feb. 16). Participants will need to provide their own equipment, whether it is bringing along skis or renting them.

The ski and snowboard lessons cost $250, with an additional $45 covering the five bus trips to Steamboat. A $31 lift ticket also will need to be purchased for each week.

Craig Parks and Recreation is now also accepting registrations for membership to the Ski Club. The club is for anyone to join and costs $10.

Membership in Ski Club gets lift tickets to Steamboat for $55 on Saturdays throughout the season.

Winter lifeguard training courses coming up

Registration for a lifeguard training course during the winter break is open.

Craig Parks and Recreation has aquatic programs year-round, and is in need of lifeguards even during the winter and spring. The class is for teenagers and adults above the age of 15.

Participants must pass a swim test before being allowed to take the lifeguard course, which will take place over the school’s winter break.

The swim test will be Dec. 12 from 7-8 p.m., which therefore doubles as the last day to sign up for the training course.

There is a registration fee of $125. All those interested must call Parks and Rec at 826-2017 to register

Water Aerobics courses available to walk-ins

Craig residents looking to get a different style of exercise are in luck.

Registration is open for water aerobics courses, which began Oct. 22 and run through Jan. 16.

Water Aerobics offer a good combination of exercise benefits, improving fitness and flexibility while also being easier on the joints than other forms of exercise.

Classes will be Mondays and Wednesdays from 7-8 p.m. at Moffat County High School. The fee to drop-in for a class is $4, or to sign up for the entire session costs $50.
