Rig Count for Nov. 24, 2012

A count on oil and natural gas rigs, as of Friday, operating in Colorado, Wyoming and the U.S. overall, according to Baker Hughes, Inc., a Houston-based energy consulting company:

• Colorado has 57 rigs online — 1 less than Nov. 16, and 24 less than Nov. 25, 2011.

• Wyoming has 51 rigs online — the same as Nov. 16, but 1 less than Nov. 25, 2011.

• The U.S. has 1,817 rigs online — 8 more than Nov. 16, but 183 less than Nov. 25, 2011.

Of those rigs:

— 1,745 are working on land, 19 in inland waters, and 53 offshore.

— 1,388 are drilling for oil, 428 for natural gas.

— 194 wells are directional, 1,114 are horizontal, and 509 are vertical.

As of the close of trading Thursday:

• Crude oil closed up $1.93 from a week ago at $87.38 a barrel on the New York Mercantile Exchange.

• Colorado Southeast crude oil closed up 50 cents from a week ago at $74.10 a barrel.

• Colorado Western crude oil closed up 50 cents from a week ago at $73.63 a barrel.

• Wyoming Sweet crude oil closed up 43 cents from a week ago at $75.75 a barrel.

• Natural gas closed up 20 cents from a week ago at $3.90 per 10,000 million British thermal units or MMBtu.
