Rig Count for Nov. 17

A count on oil and natural gas rigs, as of Friday, operating in Colorado, Wyoming and the U.S. overall, according to Baker Hughes, Inc., a Houston-based energy consulting company:
• Colorado has 58 rigs online — 3 more than Nov. 9, but 22 less than Nov. 18, 2011.
• Wyoming has 51 rigs online — 1 less than Nov. 9, and 2 less than Nov. 18, 2011.
• The U.S. has 1,809 rigs online — 3 more than Nov. 9, but 192 less than Nov. 18, 2011.
Of those rigs:
— 1,740 are working on land, 19 in inland waters, and 50 offshore.
— 1,390 are drilling for oil, 417 for natural gas.
— 194 wells are directional, 1,105 are horizontal, and 510 are vertical.
As of the close of trading Thursday:
• Crude oil closed up 36 cents from a week ago at $85.45 a barrel on the New York
Mercantile Exchange.
• Colorado Southeast crude oil closed up $1 from a week ago at $73.60 a barrel.
• Colorado Western crude oil closed up $1 from a week ago at $73.13 a barrel.
• Wyoming Sweet crude oil closed up $1.23 from a week ago at $75.32 a barrel.
• Natural gas closed up 9 cents from a week ago at $3.70 per 10,000 million British thermal units or MMBtu.
