Rig Count for Nov. 3, 2012

A count on oil and natural gas rigs, as of Friday, operating in Colorado, Wyoming and the U.S. overall, according to Baker Hughes, Inc., a Houston-based energy consulting company:

• Colorado has 56 rigs online — 7 less than Oct. 26, and 24 less than Nov. 4, 2011.

• Wyoming has 51 rigs online — 1 more than Oct. 26, but 7 less than Nov. 4, 2011.

• The U.S. has 1,800 rigs online — 26 less than Oct. 26, and 226 less than Oct. 21, 2011.

Of those rigs:

— 1,733 are working on land, 16 in inland waters, and 51 offshore.

— 1,373 are drilling for oil, 424 for natural gas.

— 195 wells are directional, 1,105 are horizontal, and 500 are vertical.

As of the close of trading Thursday:

• Crude oil closed up $1.04 from a week ago at $87.09 a barrel on the New York Mercantile Exchange.

• Colorado Southeast crude oil closed up $1 from a week ago at $74.35 a barrel.

• Colorado Western crude oil closed up $1 from a week ago at $73.88 a barrel.

• Wyoming Sweet crude oil closed down 16 cents from a week ago at $76.89 a barrel.

• Natural gas closed up 27 cents from a week ago at $3.70 per 10,000 million British thermal units or MMBtu.
