Regional soccer tournament June 8
The fourth annual Emily Johnson Play It Forward 3v3 Soccer Tournament takes place from June 8 to 10 at Gates Soccer Park on the Spring Valley Campus of Colorado Mountain College in Glenwood Springs.
The tournament — open to all interested male and female athletes on the Western Slope — honors Emily Johnson, a Coal Ridge High School student and star soccer player who was killed in an ATV accident in 2008.
The weekend begins with the Emily Johnson Play It Forward All Star Exhibition Game, featuring the All League Western Slope Conference 3A and 4A high school players. Boys play at 5 p.m., and girls play at 7 p.m.
The two-day tournament begins at 8 a.m. June 9 and continues through June 10 for boys and girls teams — split into age brackets for children younger than 8 and younger than 18 — as well as co-ed adult teams in both recreational and competitive divisions.
Teams can register at EmilyJohnsonPlayitForward.org. Cost is $150 per team, which guarantees at least three games, a goody bag and tournament T-shirt. The event also will include a silent auction and refreshments.
