Showing appreciation for those who have fought for our country is something that can’t be overdone, and those who have served have a short opportunity to take advantage of a great deal.
Victory Motors, 2705 W. First St., will continue its special discount program for members of the military through the end of May. The program, offered through auto manufacturer Chrysler, offers a $1,000 rebate for car buyers who have served in the military.
“It can be for someone retired, someone active in the military or the reserves (or) pretty much anyone who can show us honorable discharge papers,” sales manager Brian Kitzman said. “I think it’s a great thing because it’s a little heads up that we care about them and all they’ve done for us. We’ve already had a few takers, and I think we should get some more activity this week.”
Kitzman said he expects to see a good flow of customers, military and otherwise, for the business as summer approaches.
“February was one of the best months we’ve had in five years, and that was kind of the light at the end of the tunnel, though we’re not out of (the recession) yet,” he said. “Summertime’s always pretty good for us, too, especially since gas prices have been stabilizing,” he said.
Victory Motors will bring in some features in the near future, including an economy model that Kitzman believes will be a big seller.
“Dodge is reintroducing the Dodge Dart and the 2013s should be out soon,” Kitzman said. “It’s coming out early and it should be way cool because it’ll have some stuff they inherited from the Fiat company and Alfa Romero.”

Local liquor outlets offer holiday discounts
As one of the biggest days of the year for cookouts and other parties, the Memorial Day weekend will mean a significant bill for food and drink for those hosting get-togethers. But, shopping smart isn’t too hard at many liquor stores around Craig.
Among the establishments offering bargains for the three-day weekend is Dark Horse Discount Liquor, 1520 W. Victory Way, with specials on 1.75 liter bottles of Jose Cuervo tequila for $28.79 and cases of Budweiser and Bud Light for $22.40 apiece.
Lariat Lee Liquor, 391 Lincoln St., will also feature lower prices on Budweiser products, like 12-packs for $11.38. Prices for 12-packs of Sam Adams, Dos Equis and New Belgium brews are down to $14.79, while all domestic 20-packs of bottles are $17.27.
The store’s 750 milliliter bottles of Bacardi and Jägermeister are marked down, as well. Lariat also provides free ice with purchases and offers home delivery.
Eastside Liquor, 539 E. Victory Way, will set out selections of seasonal beers as summer comes ever closer. The business also has begun hosting a weekly wine-tasting event Friday afternoons, most recently letting customers sample red table wines like Cline Cashmere, Friends.Red, and Gnarly Head.
“People have been asking for something like this for a while and I think they like it,” East Side owner Ryan Duran said. “We did a tasting of Dave Matthews’ wine that people really enjoyed.”
Duran said he hopes for some big business today, though he wants customers to keep one piece of advice in mind.
“Drink responsibly,” he said.
