There are certain requirements that one needs to meet to become a member of Student Council.

In order for a student to be part of the Student Council, he or she must maintain a GPA of 2.0 or better.

For class representatives, a GPA of 2.5 must be maintained.

Officers such as a Student Council President or a Vice President must maintain a GPA of 3.0 or higher.

The officers must have also been in student council for a full year and been involved in council meetings.

With only two students meeting these requirements, Mrs. DeLaine Brown and the other members of the Student Council have had a smaller ballot to work with this year.

Sophomores Nicole Ferree and Derek Maiolo are the only students who meet the requirements. Ferree was running for President and Maiolo for Vice President.

Last year, Ferree was the Secretary and Maiolo was the Treasurer.

Ferree ran for student body President because she said, “I really have a passion for leadership and thought that running for president was a great opportunity to show my leadership skills.”

Maiolo chose Vice President because he still wanted to be an officer. He said, “I was not ready for the duties of President, and there are a lot.”

The departing Student Council officers have the chance to run again or can just stay members of that group.

They also send a letter to the upcoming member that gives them tips and ideas to help make the position easier.

Maiolo and Ferree get the chance to spend a day after school with their mentors so that they can be taught the things that need to be accomplished.

There were no applications for the Treasurer and Secretary positions this year.

The council will be having an in-council vote on who will get these positions.

Mrs. Brown will be choosing the members if they have meet the requirements.

Ferree and Maiolo are really excited to be part of Student Council and they are really looking forward to next year.
