Quotable:

“I really do look at business as a service to the community. It’s how I make my living, and yet I think the customer service attitude of myself and my crew is what has made us successful. Going out of your way to make sure the customer is satisfied is just one of those things that we do.”

When Justin Jenison, 35, learned his business was voted best construction company and best builder in Moffat County, it was the second piece of good news he'd received in as many days.

At 9:30 p.m. June 25, Jenison’s wife, Courtney, gave birth to their third child, a healthy baby boy they named Judah.

It was fortunate timing, Jenison said.

In the 10 years since he and Courtney started Jenison Custom Builders, 455 Yampa Ave., the business has been able to maintain consistent growth despite the most recent economic downturn.

Currently, Jenison employs six people who are as much extended family as employees.

The company’s success and blossoming reputation is driven by mutual respect everyone at the business has for one another, Jenison said.

“I really do look at business as a service to the community,” he said. “It’s how I make my living, and yet I think the customer service attitude of myself and my crew is what has made us successful.

“Going out of your way to make sure the customer is satisfied is just one of those things that we do.”

In June, half of Jenison’s crew was working on a project near the Wyoming border.

But, Craig customers are also lining up for Jenison’s services, many of them not for the first time.

Craig resident Joel Sheridan contracted Jenison for bathroom and kitchen remodels scheduled to begin in August.

Jenison first worked with Sheridan a few years ago on a roofing project.

“He does high-quality work, first of all. He’s tremendously reliable with the work, getting it organized and getting it done,” Sheridan said. “He’s a good problem solver and works with people on their ideas. We wouldn’t employ him if he didn’t provide reliable, high-quality work.”

Jenison Custom Builders specializes in a variety of building projects from new construction to residential and light industrial remodeling, including roofs, kitchens and baths.

“It’s an honor to be publicly recognized for all of the hard work Courtney and I have put into this business,” Jenison said. “I take it pretty personally as far as the quality, outcome and reputation of the business, and it’s nice that it is beginning to show in the community.”
