To the editor:
The Rotary Club of Craig has begun our American flag display season for 2012.
As a service to our great community, we place flags on the light posts downtown on two blocks of Yampa Avenue and on stretches of U.S. Highway 40 eight times each year — Armed Forces Day (May 19), Memorial Day (May 28), Flag day (June 14), the Fourth of July, Labor Day, Sept. 11, Columbus Day (Oct. 8), Veterans Day (Nov. 11) and on a few other special occasions/circumstances.
The length of display is determined by the number of flags sponsored each year.
Last year, we were able to begin at the bridge on Fortification Creek and end at Craig Ford on both sides of Highway 40.
This year, we are ending at the Walgreens/Taco Bell block.
We would love to have the display stretch further and welcome additional sponsorships to enable us to do so.
Flag sponsorships are $75 per flag each year and enable us to maintain the flags and buckets as well as raise money for the many community service projects we are involved in.
The Rotary Club provides a number of high school and Colorado Northwestern Community College nursing scholarships. We provide books and dictionaries to all school district second- and third-grade students and financially support numerous other community organizations.
Thanks to those businesses and individuals who have already sponsored a flag, and if you would like to become a flag sponsor, please call us at 826-4444, stop by the Elk Run Inn, or contact any director via email at www.craigrotary.org.
2011-12 president, Rotary Club of Craig
