Briefs for June 2: Library hosting summer reading program

The Craig branch of the Moffat County Libraries will begin accepting applications for its 2012 Summer Reading Program on Monday.

The program is free and open to all ages.

Registration is available online or at the library, 570 Green St.

The program includes weekly activities and a weekly story time for children at 11 a.m. every Thursday.

Quilt show on display now

The third annual Western Heritage Quilt Show is on display through Tuesday at the Museum of Northwest Colorado, 590 Yampa Ave.

The event, put on by the museum and the Yampa Valley Piecemakers Quilt Guild, features quilts and wall hangings by professional and amateur quilters.

The show can be viewed from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. today and from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday and Tuesday.

Wyman Museum offering summer classes

Wyman Museum, 94350 E. U.S. Highway 40, will host summer classes for children and adults beginning Monday.

A pottery class open to children of any age takes place from 10 to 11 a.m. Mondays.

Adult classes are from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m.

The cost for the four-week classes is $60 and includes all supplies.

A gourd art class is scheduled for 8:30 to 9:30 a.m. every Monday in June.

Participants will learn how to turn gourds into ornaments and birdhouses.

The cost is $50 and includes all supplies.

A series of three-week blacksmithing classes take place Mondays for children 12 and older.

The cost is $60 and includes all supplies.

Children’s classes take place from 10 a.m. to noon and 2 to 4 p.m.

Adult classes are scheduled for 5:30 to 7:30 p.m.

Basic art classes are scheduled for every Thursday in June.

Participants will use a variety of mediums, including watercolors and colored pencils.

Classes for children 4 to 9 years old take place from 11 a.m. to noon, and classes for children 10 to 16 years old are set for 1 to 2 p.m.

The cost is $50 and includes all supplies.

A sewing class is scheduled for 1 to 3 p.m. June 26.

The cost is $30 and includes all supplies.

Classes without any registered participants will be canceled.

Medicare 101 in Craig, Maybell

Medicare 101 classes are scheduled in Craig, Maybell and Steamboat Springs for residents who are new to Medicare and want to learn more about the program.

The first class takes place from 3 to 5 p.m. Tuesday in Craig.

Other scheduled classes are as follows:

• 10 a.m. to noon July 17 in Craig

• 10 a.m. to noon June 26 in Maybell

• 3 to 5 p.m. Wednesday and 10 a.m. to noon Aug. 14 in Steamboat Springs

Medicare counseling in Craig

Medicare consultations take place from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Tuesday in room 106 of Colorado Northwestern Community College’s Bell Tower Building, 50 College Dr.

Betsy Packer, with the State Health Insurance Assistance Program, is available the first and third Tuesdays of every month to offer one-on-one help to residents with Medicare and their families.

The consultations are free and confidential, and they are open to residents who receive Medicare, which is for people 65 and older, or who will be receiving Medicare services in the near future.
