The Craig Sea Sharks are racing at the Western Slope League Championships this weekend at Colorado Mesa University.

It is the youth swimming team’s league meet.

The WSL consists of 18 club swimming teams in Colorado, including the Steamboat Springs Swim Team and Rangely Hurricanes.

The WSL swim meet is the first postseason meet for the summer season. Swimmers had to qualify in each event by meeting time standards.

The Sea Sharks had 14 swimmers qualify for the WSL meet.

The next meet for the Sea Sharks will be the Colorado Long Course State Championships from July 27-29 at the Air Force Academy.

They will then race at the Seasonal State Championships in Gunnison August 3-5.

The Sea Sharks have had 11 swimmers qualify for the state meet as of the beginning of the WSL.

All-American wrestler offering youth camp

Youth wrestlers from Moffat County will have a unique opportunity to learn from a University of Northern Colorado standout.

Tanner Linsacum, an All-American wrestler at UNC during the 2002-03 season, will lead the camp for wrestlers in first through 12th grades July 28 at the Moffat County High School gym.

The first session will be for first through sixth graders, from 9 a.m. to noon. Day-of registration begins at 8 a.m.

The second session, for grades seven to 12, will go from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m., with registration beginning at the conclusion of the first session.

Lifeguard training begins next week

Craig Parks and Recreation will have lifeguard training classes from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m August 7-10.

Anyone wishing to be a lifeguard will have to take the course and pass a swimming test before being allowed into the training. The pre-test swimming course is Tuesday at 7 p.m. at the Craig Swimming Complex, 605 Washington St. Tuesday is also the final day to register for the course.

The cost is $100.

Participants must be at least 15-years-old and strong enough swimmers to complete a 300-meter swim and tread water for a minute. The course will teach CPR, first aid and rescue skills, among others.

Soccer tournament for all ages slated

Bill Sawer will host the Beach Soccer Tournament Sunday, July 22, at Sawer’s Soccer Park, 2303 W. First St.

The one-day tournament will begin at 1 p.m. and play will continue until darkness falls. It is for players of all ages and skill levels.

Participants won’t need soccer cleats, as the games will be played on sand.

There is no fee to play, and Sawer said he expects a low-key event that will allow people to “come out and play until they can’t stand.”
