Phyllis Virden: Time for TMH administration to go
To the editor:
I've been reading the doctor hospital controversy with interest.
Dr. Told was our family doctor for many years and when he was a new doctor here, there seemed to be a problem among other doctors or the hospital and they seemed to want to get him to leave but his patients had some town meetings in support of him and he stayed and served the community for many years.
When he left, it left a lot of people without a family physician.
Finally about one or two years ago, we started going to Dr. Phillips and really liked him and got to know him. From visiting with him, I understood that he loved the area and planned to raise his children here and be a part of the community for a long time.
I met his wife and she seemed to like it here and was a very pleasant, down to earth person.
I also know Dr. Stan Pense and again he seemed to like the area and planned to be here for a long time. People who used him as a surgeon were very impressed with him and felt we were very lucky to have such a skilled surgeon in our little community.
Dr. Phillips was voted the best Doctor in Craig in the Daily Press survey, so he was well liked by many. Then all of a sudden Dr. Phillips was gone and I hadn't known there was even a problem.
We were without a family doctor again. I feel that having a family doctor is very important.
They become almost a family member. They know you and your medical history and you build a trust in them knowing they are there when you need them.
I questioned why Dr. Phillips had gone so suddenly and there seemed to be suggestions of problems dealing with hospital administration. Then the articles and interviews in the paper led me to the same conclusion that the hospital administration has a policy of "My way or the Highway" I'm thinking it's time for the administration to check out the highway.
We need a hospital board and administration who recognize how lucky we are in our small community to get good quality doctors to come here, a board and administrators who are willing to compromise and work out problems and do their best to keep good doctors here.
