Stella Hall has been a fixture in Craig for many years.

Now retired, Hall spent 42 years teaching in Moffat County.

Having taught science in high school, junior high and elementary school, Hall said she didn’t have a favorite, enjoying the unique experiences each grade level provided.

Originally an English major, Hall said she soon thought it a waste of time and switched to science.

Since retiring, Hall said she does as she pleases, naming traveling and fishing as two of her favorite past times.

Hall has been all over Europe, parts of Africa, Australia, New Zealand, most of the U.S., including Alaska, to fish.

“I caught some really big ones there,” Hall said with a smile. “A hundred-pounder.”

A member of numerous professional organizations, Hall was honored as woman of the year in 1977 by the local newspaper, then called the Empire Courier.

Throughout all her years of work, Hall said she called in sick only three days.

Not a native to Craig, Hall said she stayed because of the friendly people and how well they had treated her.

But she did mention the cold.

“When I got here it was so cold I couldn’t stand it,” Hall said. “So I bought a fur coat.”

A member of the Rebekah’s club, Hall is still an active member in performing service projects.

An avid crotchet and knitter, Hall makes all sorts of creations, including butterflies and pillows.

Hall’s caretaker, Karen Cantrell, said there’s not a time they go out to the store or anywhere that someone doesn’t recognize, “Mrs. Hall.”

“She taught multiple generations,” Cantrell said. “We never go out without seeing someone.”
