A Craig resident suspected of murder appeared today in Moffat County District Court for a status conference.
Leroy Fief, 48, of Craig, is charged in district court with one count of murder, a Class 1 felony.
He remains in custody at Moffat County Jail and is being held without bond.
In addition to today’s status conference a proof evident hearing was on the docket to determine Fief’s bail.
But the defense submitted a motion for substitution of council, which was approved by Chief Judge Michael O’Hara.
Craig attorney Jeremy Snow is now representing Fief.
Though Fief has the right to a preliminary hearing within 35 days of being advised of that right, he elected today to waive his right to a timely preliminary hearing to give Snow an opportunity to review the details of the case.
The preliminary and proof evident hearings were rescheduled for 8:30 a.m. Feb. 21, 2013.
14th Judicial District Attorney Brett Barkey, who is prosecuting Fief, said today he expects February’s hearings to last a full day.
Fief was arrested earlier this month for his alleged involvement in the murder of Craig resident Shane Arredondo, 43, in the parking lot outside of the Elk Head apartments located at 456 Yampa Ave.
