DENVER (AP) — Colorado transportation of crews were fanning out across the Denver metro area to keep the roads open during a wintry storm.

Up to 75 Colorado Department of Transportation snowplows were expected to begin working 12 hours shifts in the metro area late Tuesday as the storm moved into the area.

Forecasts call for up to 6 inches of snow along the Front Range, which is home to 4.1 million of Colorado's 5 million residents.

The storm has already caused treacherous driving conditions in western Colorado Tuesday that prompted officials to close Colorado 65 over the 11,333-foot Grand Mesa near Grand Junction.

Denver International Airport officials say blowing snow and low visibility were expected to cause delays Wednesday.
