The Moffat County School District will be hosting two community meetings to assist parents in understanding safety procedures as a result of last week’s school shooting in Connecticut.
The first is at 6 p.m. Tuesday at Moffat County High School, 900 Finley Lane. The second will be at 6 p.m. Wednesday in the cafeteria at Sandrock Elementary School, 201 E. Ninth St.
District administrators, school administrators and school counselors will be on hand to answer questions and assist parents.
Superintendent Joe Petrone said the administration is taking a proactive approach in response to the tragedy, making sure questions are answered and student and parent concerns are addressed.
“We’re trying to maintain vigilance over the children and their concerns as privately as possible,” Petrone said. “The events in Newtown were profoundly devastating. We want our community to know we have safety protocols in place.”
Petrone said the meetings were planned to address general questions, and added he and other administrators were committed to listen to any thoughts parents may have.

News this week showed snowpack in the Yampa River basin has reached 94 percent of median for the date. Do you think Moffat County is out of the woods as far as drought concerns?
