- Julie Grobe: Shoebox goal achieved
- December 12, 2012
- Many people have asked me if we made our goal of 600 shoeboxes for this year. I am happy to say “Yes we did.” The Craig Relay Center for Operation Christmas Child received some late arrivals that put us over the top to 610. Thanks to everyone who donated a shoebox filled with gifts for the world’s neediest children. Thanks also to those tho donated money, items and time to help us send some love. A special thank you goes to Dave DeRose and JB Chapman who allowed us to used their vehicles to haul all those boxes to Grand Junction for the next leg of their journey.
- Julie Boren: Kathy Bankert’s ‘A Piece of Cloth’
- December 12, 2012
- The following piece was written by Kathy Bankert and was acquired courtesy of the Meeker Museum: They say I’m just a piece of cloth with stripes and stars, no feelings, but that’s not true. I do have feelings. I’m not supposed to hear, so they say, but I do. From the Atlantic Coast to the Pacific Coast, I hear what they say about me, about my country. They think that i can’t see but I can. I’ve seen the bloody battles in which our boys have fought, and lost their lives; and I’ve seen my nation go through times of distress and times of gladness. And through all I was there, holding myself up proudly in the wind.
