Sports Briefs for August 6: MCHS golf coach offering instruction for youth

Yampa Valley Golf Course will be the site of a Ladies Professional Golf Association Girls Golf Day this week.
Ann Marie Roberts, Moffat County High School girls golf coach, will lead the day of teaching at YVGC for girls of all skill levels from ages 4 through 18.
The day of teaching will take place from 10 a.m. to noon Wednesday.
Roberts and members of the MCHS girls golf team will provide beginner and intermediate instruction for anyone interested in the game.
“We’ll be there to get them started or to pick up a few pointers if they’ve played a little bit,” Roberts said. “We want to promote girls in the game of golf.”
Participants will receive a gift for participating.

Presentation for concussion awareness coming at Yampa Valley Medical Center
Yampa Valley Medical Center in Steamboat Springs will host an educational class about concussions as part of its "Taking Care of Me" education initiative.
The class, titled “More than just a bump on the head: Youth Sports & Concussions,” will take place at 6 p.m. Aug. 16 at YVMC conference rooms, 1024 Central Park Dr.
Doctors and physical therapists will speak at the free program about concussion symptoms, the recovery process for all parties involved, and Colorado concussion legislation.
Adult softball to begin tournaments
Craig Parks and Recreation adult softball concluded its regular season and has league tournaments taking place this week and next.
The 14-team league breaks into two tournaments of seven.
In the B League tournament, the 8- through 14-seeded teams from the regular season will face off today through Wednesday.
The A League, the seven best teams from the regular season, will have its tournament Aug. 13 through 15. The tournament is double elimination.
Games will be played at 7:15 and 8:45 p.m. at Loudy-Simpson Park.
