The annual task of finishing an income tax return is one many people put off until the very last minute.
Even for those well-practiced in procrastination, the homestretch before the final deadline doesn’t have to be terrifying.
With an extra two days this year to complete and submit federal and state tax returns for 2011, there’s less need to panic about being late. Besides the traditional April 15 date falling on a Sunday, the Washington, D.C. holiday, Emancipation Day, is April 16, making this year’s deadline April 17.
Compiling all your forms, receipts and various accoutrements to take to your accountant could be difficult at this point, with tax experts experiencing their undoubtedly busiest time of year, and even using TurboTax software might be complex without someone to take you through it step by step.
If you’re stuck, you can always refer to the Internal Revenue Service website. The IRS offers instructional videos for troubleshooting the process, including topics like extensions, payment options, last-minute tips and how to find the status of a refund for those who have already filed.

Convenience stores serve up new promotion
Being on the move throughout the day means trying to fuel your stomach without taking too much time out of your schedule.
Fortunately, you can find a slice of something that’s both quick and delicious at a couple of different locations.
Kum & Go’s west and north store locations, 1302 W. Victory Way and 895 Yampa Ave., respectively, recently began a new food promotion with the Go Fresh Market line.
Beginning today, the two convenience stores will set out newly installed heating ovens for pizzas.
Shylar Venteylingen, a sales manager for the west K&G store, said the first week of the promotion has been very positive.
“They’ve been responding to it pretty well, especially the $1 deal we had,” she said. “People really liked that one.”
The stores will be offering a weekly deal for the coming months with $1 dollar slices on Wednesdays. A daily deal is $3.99 for two slices and a 32-ounce fountain drink, or $8.88 for a whole pie.
Venteylingen said the selection of usual pizza toppings like pepperoni and Italian sausage has sold well with customers, but just as big a hit is the breakfast pizza among early risers.
“It’s got scrambled eggs, bacon and kind of a cheese sauce on it,” she said.
Venteylingen said people who are expecting a dish that’s been frozen and reheated are in for a surprise once they taste it.
“It’s all fresh made with fresh dough and we put it all together,” she said. “It’s all just really good pizza. I know I like it a lot.”
