Sports Briefs for April 4: MCHS boys track and field finishes 4th in Grand Junction, girls 6th

MCHS boys track and field finishes 4th in Grand Junction, girls 6th

The Moffat County High School varsity track and field team competed Friday in the Warrior Wild West Invitational at Stocker Stadium in Grand Junction.

The boys team finished fourth and the girls team sixth out of nine teams.

Senior Alfredo Lebron took first place in the 800-meter run, breaking his own school record with a time of 1 minute, 56.76 seconds.

Lebron was also part of the boys 4-by-400- and 4-by-800-meter relays, which both finished in first place.

The 4-by-400-meter relay, consisting of Lebron, fellow seniors Johnny Landa and Miguel Molina and junior Erik Silva, ran a time of 3:29.97 to rank them fourth in the state.

The 4-by-800-meter relay, made up of Lebron, Landa, Miguel and senior Rene Molina, posted a time of 8:13.36 to move up to third in the state.

The Bulldogs also saw first-place finishes by junior Eryn Leonard in the 800- and 1,600-meter runs and junior Ryder Seely in the 300-meter hurdles.

The Bulldogs are off until April 13 when they compete at Coal Ridge High School.

Girls golf team’s Monday results

The Moffat County High School girls varsity golf team competed Monday at Bookcliff Golf Course in Grand Junction.

Head coach Ann Marie Roberts said the girls had to play in cold, windy conditions, but made the best of it.

“We haven’t been able to get on the range at all, so I am not disappointed with the way they played (Monday),” Roberts said. “This week and next we are going to hit the range hard and that will help.”

Senior Sam Fox led the way for the Bulldogs, shooting a 101 and taking sixth place overall.

The Bulldogs play Tuesday in the Montrose Invitational at Black Canyon Golf Course in Montrose.
