Governor orders flags lowered

Gov. John Hickenlooper has ordered flags be lowered to half-staff on all public buildings statewide Saturday in honor of Staff Sgt. Robert B. Cowdrey.

Flags should be lowered from sunrise to sunset.

Cowdrey, 39, of Atwater, Ohio, died Thursday, Oct. 13, 2011, in Kunar Province, Afghanistan, from injuries sustained during combat operations.



He was assigned to the Third Battalion, 82nd Combat Aviation Brigade, 82nd Airborne Division in Fort Bragg, N.C.

Cowdrey was a 1990 graduate of La Junta High School.



He is survived by his wife and three sons. A funeral is scheduled for Saturday, Oct. 29, 2011, in La Junta.
