Cool Water Grille, 337 W. Victory Way, first opened its doors for hungry patrons Sept. 23.

The restaurant, open from 5:30 a.m. to 2 p.m., offers hearty breakfast favorites such as sausage, bacon, ham, omelets and pancakes, as well as a lunch menu with burgers, sandwiches and salads.

Owner Dennis Otis said customer feedback has been positive for the first two weeks.

“We’ve had an awesome response,” he said. “People really like the build-your-own burgers. We’re still making adjustments to the menu, but people are pretty happy with it.”

Otis recently received a liquor license from the Craig City Council for the business.

“The bar isn’t done just yet, but we’ll get there,” he said. “I’m hoping to do private parties, and another thing I want to do is have a bloody mary special.”

Otis said once the preparations are done, the restaurant will offer a vast spread of Bloody Mary options, ranging from the traditional celery to vegetables like asparagus and green beans to condiments such as horseradish and clamato.

“You can make it look like a big tossed salad,” he said.

Otis said Cool Water is his first undertaking in restaurants.

“I’ve worked in construction most of my life, and I thought I’d go on a new great adventure,” he said. “My grandparents used to own a place in Denver, and I would help them out sometimes, but I never thought I would get back into it. So far it’s been a lot of fun.”

Craft shop to double business with bakery

Local business owner Kandee Dilldine made her hobby work for her in starting her own store. Now, she’s looking for a similar result as she starts an additional venture.

“It combines my two favorite things — crafts and baking,” she said.

Dilldine, owner of craft store KS Kreations, 523 Yampa Ave., is setting up a bakery as a new feature of the shop. She will be working on the baked goods with her daughter, Kassie Vesely.

“With the closing of Serendipity, I thought we needed a bakery downtown,” Dilldine said. “We already bake a lot of cakes, and my building used to be a bakery about 12 years ago, so it’s set up for what we need.”

Dilldine said she will offer items like cinnamon rolls, muffins, scones, pies, cupcakes, cookies, brownies and lemon bars, to name a few.

“One thing people have asked about is if we’ll have donuts,” she said. “We can’t put in a fryer, but we might have cake donuts or something like that. We might do breakfast sandwiches, too.”

The bakery’s to-go counter will be at the front of the store. Dilldine said there won’t be quite enough room for customers to sit down, but her crafts customers won’t be inconvenienced by the shifts in space.

“Half of the shop will be for the bakery and half for crafts,” she said. “It won’t be that much different.”

Dilldine said she is hoping to have the bakery up and running within the next couple weeks.
