What: Final meeting of the Swim Pool Task Force
When: 5:30 p.m. Tuesday
Where: Moffat County School District Administrative Building 775 Yampa Ave.
The Swim Pool Task Force will convene for its final meeting at 5:30 p.m. Tuesday at the Moffat County School District administrative building, 775 Yampa Ave.
At the meeting, the task force will endorse its final report, which will then be formally presented to the Moffat County School Board on March 28, Superintendent Joe Petrone said.
The task force began to take shape a year ago at a school board meeting.
In March 2010, the board had been presented with maintenance and repair issues regarding the 30-year-old swimming pool at Moffat County High School.
The board tabled discussion and commissioned the task force.
The task force was asked to assign priorities to the repairs and find alternate funding sources to address them.
The 17-person task force includes members of the school board, school administrators, faculty, community members and a student.
The task force has met roughly every two weeks since September 2010.
Petrone said the task force is putting the finishing touches on four options for the pool: expand, maintain, reduce or close.
The option with the greatest benefit to the community is expansion to a year-round facility, Petrone said.
“But, there are some costs involved there,” he said.
“Option 2 is to maintain as we’re currently doing,” Petrone said. “Option 3 is to reduce to a schedule that still accommodates the learn-to-swim program.”
The final option is closure, Petrone said.
“The closure option includes either a reconditioning of the space for another use, or just complete closure,” he said.
Petrone said the meeting is open to district faculty and the community.
