Briefs for March 17, 2011: VNA hosting drop-in clinic March 24

The Northwest Colorado Visiting Nurse Association will host a drop-in immunization clinic for adolescents to get their Tdap and Meningococcal vaccinations next week. The clinic is scheduled for 4 to 6:30 p.m. March 24 at Craig Middle School during parent-teacher conferences.

Parents must be present and need to bring their child’s immunization records.

Young Patriot Essay Contest open to Moffat County students

The Bears Ears Tea Party Patriots are offering an essay contest for all Moffat County students in the ninth through 12th grades. Cash prizes will be awarded for first ($100), second ($75) and third ($25) places.

The Moffat County Young Patriot Essay Contest calls on students to write 400 to 500 words answering the question, what does it mean to be an American?

Entries must be received no later than April 11 and can be mailed to the organization at P.O. Box 1500, Craig, CO, 81626.

Entries must be original work and contestants may enter only once. All work must be typed and include the contestant’s name, address, e-mail address and telephone number.

Fire board meeting tonight at Craig Fire/Rescue

The Craig Rural Fire Protection District Board is scheduled to meet at 7 p.m. today at Craig Fire/Rescue, 419 Yampa Ave.

Craig Daily Press seeking new Editorial Board members

The Craig Daily Press is seeking three to four people to participate on its next Editorial Board, which begins April 4.

Editorial Board members meet from noon to 1 p.m. Mondays to discuss the newspaper’s opinion pieces for that week’s Wednesday and Saturday editions.

Editorial Board terms last three months.

Sandrock Elementary teacher to receive 2011 CEA Award

Sandrock Elementary School teacher Michele Conroy has been selected for the 2011 CEA Award, according to a news release from David Grabowski, president of the Moffat County Education Association.

“The CEA Award recognizes an association member who has given outstanding service to education at the state level,” the release states. “This is the highest award that CEA can give to a member.”

Conroy will receive the award during the Colorado Education Association’s annual delegate assembly on April 29 in Denver.

American Legion bingo set for Saturday

American Legion Post 62 is hosting bingo Saturday night at the Elks Lodge, 43 W. Victory Way. Doors open at 5 p.m., and games begin at 6:15 p.m. Anyone is welcome.
