Rosemary Potter: Impeach the president

To the editor:

President Barack Obama should be impeached. There are many reasons for this statement.

Here are some:

• He refuses to protect our southern border from the millions of illegal immigrants swarming across, including drug dealers, pimps, human traffickers, kidnappers, thieves, murderers, and even Islamic terrorists. That is called treason, and the U.S. Constitution says it is grounds for impeachment.

• His Attorney General Eric Holder has sued the State of Arizona for lawfully protecting its own borders because the federal government has failed to do so. To add insult to injury, the president’s Secretary of State has reported Arizona’s actions to the United Nations as a human rights abuse.

• He has, with Obama Care, illegally demanded that we private citizens purchase a product we do not want. Obama Care also requires the states pay for part of the program. Judge Andrew Napolitano says this method of paying for Obama Care is clearly unconstitutional because it amounts to “commandeering” the state legislatures for federal purposes, which the Supreme Court has already ruled as unconstitutional.

• He has stolen the money of investors in private companies, like General Motors, by nationalizing those industries and using the assets to pay off his biggest supporters: the unions. That’s called theft, which is a high crime, and the Constitution says it is grounds for impeachment.

Please see www.impeachobamacampaign.com for useful information.

I am contacting Rep. Scott Tipton, and senators Mark Udall and Michael Bennett to protest. I am urging them to begin an inquiry for impeachment immediately.

I hope you will protest with me.

Why should we sit back and do nothing? Then we become guilty by default.

Tallgoodlookin you must have voted for Obama. For those of us who decided that Obama should not be voted in because he refuses to show his country (that he is supposed to be running, and not into the ground), that he will honor our flag and our national anthem and who can also prove that he is a natural born citizen, I agree that he should be impeached.

Tallgoodlooking, you are a man of my heart..... Although, I do not respect the lack of a backbone in Obama, (esp. not enforcing the Geneva convention against Bush & Cheney) my very first thought to Rosemary was.....did you call for Bush & Cheney's impeachment, when they are responsible for crimes against humanity as well as against our own country, taking it down to its knees financially, which people refuse to acknowledge?

I have very little trust or respect for any politician of any party (since it seems they are only puppets for the corporations) but it amazes me that Bush & Cheney got off so easy for crimes against man & the environment that would be considered terrorism if any body else had committed them.

Please, You should educate yourself and quit listening to talk radio. You are a sheep being lead to slaughter. Maybe you should be more positive and join in support of our country or move to Lybia. You can fight the government with a gun there.

Abalone, please educate yourself on several issues so that you stop embarrassing yourself. First, those of us who listen to talk radio are hearing discussions of matters never covered by mainstream media. (CDP: Are you listening? Did you perhaps cover the resignations of NPR execs this week after they were caught in an undercover sting spewing antisemitic hate-speech? If you covered it, CDP, my apologies to you, because I did miss your news item.)

Second, read the Bill of Rights, Abalone. As Thomas Jefferson said, we do not need our Second Amendment until our government tries to take away our guns. You appear not to understand that you do not need to go as far as Libya to fight the government. It is your job as an American, Abalone, to fight an over-reaching federal government. (Read the Tenth Amendment, Abalone, so that you will understand that all rights belong to the State, i.e. the People, unless they are specifically assigned to the federal government..... declaring war, making treaties, printing money, really a very short list. With Obama's attempt to get rid of Fannie and Freddie, his attempt to run the banks, the auto industry, and health care, the nimnod clearly has never read the Tenth Amendment, and the phony has never worked as a Constitutional Law Professor, if in fact he ever did graduate Harvard Law...... and how would we know? He conceals his Harvard transcript, too.)

Third, the fact that George W. Bush was not impeached is not a logical defense to the legitimate call for Obama's impeachment. Once again, Abalone, if you would listen to talk radio, specifically Peter Boyles show (5-9a M-F at KHOW630.com) you would be informed about Obama's fraud regarding 27 documents which he has spent circa $2.2M of your tax dollars to-date to conceal.

Abalone, even a mind utterly lacking in curiosity and independent reasoning ability has to wonder what the dickens Obama is hiding. Stop drinking the Koolaid, and educate yourself, Abalone.

I am saddened and frightened by the opinions expressed by Ms. Potter, as well as by those posts which appear to support her ludicrous position and opinions. The medical marijuana dispensary must be doing a booming business!

I will do my best to respond to the letter. Impeachment is a drastic option. Only two presidents have faced impeachment proceedings: Jackson and Clinton (Nixon resigned before the proceedings went anywhere). Neither one was actually removed from office (the efforts failed with a senate vote). Nothing you have identified comes close to an impeachable offense. Reason 1: Every president I can think of has "failed to secure the southern border." Surely, that cannot be a reason to impeach a president. Reason 2: The United States frequently sues states and vice versa. (See U.S. v. California, Maine, Louisiana, etc..) When there is an issue regarding federal versus state powers (such as the power to regulate immigration) that's how it gets sorted out. That is no reason to impeach. Demanding people get health insurance may or may not be unconstitutional. Different judges have decided that question differently. Just about every President (and congress) has passed a law that was unconstitutional. This is why there are separation of powers. But it is no reason to impeach. Finally, nationalizing industries: railroads have been nationalized, the production of money has been nationalized, gold has been nationalized, savings and loans have been nationalized, airport security has been nationalized, the Tennessee Valley Authority is nationalized. Again, that is not reason for impeachment.

I don't think you need to agree with President Obama's policies to think that impeachment (the removal by congress of someone elected by the people) is not called for (at least in what is written in this letter). I wish people realized that the extreme rhetoric on either side of the political spectrum is harmful to a nation that needs to solve some serious problems.

Impeach the President, eh? Thanks for the laugh... These two corrupt politcal parties, their inept politicians, deluded followers and partisan politics in general will be the death of this country yet.

JustOnCrack, you posted the following: ". . . if you are in such disagreement with the direction our socialist, communist, foreign born, black muslim Antichrist president is taking us, then please leave."

The United States is a democratic republic, as envisioned and carefully crafted by our founding fathers. It is thoughtless and rude, not to mention ignorant, for you to a) assume that everything you want will be magically provided, including "free" healthcare, although there is no plan and no ability for our government to pay for nationalized healthcare; and b) to tell concerned Americans who love their country to leave. I might instead suggest that there are dozens, even hundreds, of dictatorships on this planet, to which you might relocate, if you and Obama desire to change our country so that it no longer resembles the republic as originally formed. If you really are that lazy, and if you want the federal government to provide you with all necessities, to tell you where to live, in what career to work, and how many children to have, then you will be able to find a country that suits you.

We all, however, want you and Obama to keep your hands off our country, as we do not want it destroyed by the likes of you or him.

Airborne , I agree with your assessment of the political situation in our country. American politicians, both parties, incessant bickering and childish finger pointing has rendered our leadership in this country impotent. Neither party is unblemished.

Well well well and here we stand.... Typical ignorance getting the best of us like usual.. I hate to bother your Rush Limbaugh rant but in reality there are more pressing matters to address than whether our president is a citizen or not. If you are still on that bandwagon I feel sorry for you. I get a kick out of how people are so quick to forget everything that Bush and Mr. Cheney did. If you have any sort of intelligence do some homework and read up on the previous administrations performance. You want to impeach a president because you think he isn't a citizen yet you somehow condone all the torturing that went on under the Bush administration? Which might I add was a clear human rights violation and well as violating the constitution. Or what about illegally wiretapping his own citizens? How can you dismiss such things in favor of taking aim at a black president? Believe it or not black people do exist outside of Craig. If you know anything about environmental policy you would also read about all the former policies that were repealed by Bush in favor of destroying pristine wilderness areas because his VP was a former CEO of Halliburton? You people truly make me sick. I am so fed up with all the stupid bantering that is going on and yet nobody realizes we are destroying ourselves and the places in which we live.. We allow politicians to make skewed decisions which will screw you over and yet it is ok. I am neither for or against the president. I think our government is corrupt, catering to who has the fattest wallet. Grow up and take a look around and see everything is self destructing and then continue to be ignorant.

To RichardBarbosa: Thank you very much for your well said accurate and eloquent words. This country was not founded to hold everyones hand, wipe thier nose, and powder their butt when things get a little rough. The true definition of government aid is to take blood out of one arm, dribble 2/3's of it on the floor and put it back in the other arm.
justoncrack seems to be exaclty what his name says. Thank you again RichardBarbosa dead right on the money.

missrose writes: "I think our government is corrupt, catering to who has the fattest wallet."

Of course it is. We live in a plutocracy and have for two plus centuries. A plutocracy that now has a great many corporatocratic overtones, more so with the latest decision by SCOTUS to allow practically unlimited corporate campaign contributions to those whom they favor. Since first being warned of the military/industrial complex by Dwight D. Eisenhower, it has done nothing less than he warned it would. Grown bigger and stronger with a stranglehold on government. A government not concerned with the welfare of it's citizens but a government who's only concern is the preservation of government. With incompetent politicians who spew ideological lies to their deluded base and who's only concern is to get elected and re-elected. In 2005, a Senator (all of whom are millionairs) who was just elected had to raise $10,000 a day, from day one, to finance their next campaign. What is the price of election now? Call a member of Congress and ask for a meeting, you'll be ignored. Call a member of Congress as a lobbyist and ask for a meeting, you'll definitely be heard. As Samuel Langhorne Clemens, better known as Mark Twain, once said: "We have the best government that money can buy." While this may well be the best form of government on the planet, the bar is set so low that it's practically buried. The one thing every man, woman and child on this planet has in common with each other is corrupt government and inept politicians...

"This country was not founded to hold everyones hand, wipe thier nose, and powder their butt when things get a little rough."

No, it was founded by the wealthy, for the wealthy. To wipe their noses and powder their butts. To bail out their financial institutions when they become too greedy but are "too big to fail." All at the expense of the citizenry...

Thank you, Als362. I enjoy your comments also.

Missrose, you are overlooking some important and relevant First, if you were not concerned about the deliberately concealed 27 documents, which Obama has spent to-date some $2.2M of our tax dollars to hide, then you would not raise the issue. You and Chris Matthews and David Gregory continue to rail against the legitimacy of the issue, but you continue to raise it. I have to wonder why.

Second, the legitimate concerns about Obama's concealed documents, the fact that we know less about this phony "transparent" president, and the fact that his two "autobiographies" are rife with inconsistencies and other downright lies, have nothing to do with his color. The fact that you have to keep raising the issue of his being 1/8 black (and 3/8 Arab, and 4/8 white), and to insinuate that you see "racism" lurking around every corner, indicates that you know that you have already lost the argument.

Third, please stick to the issues. The answers regarding the nature of the facts listed on Obama's 27 concealed documents soon will be revealed. We will not expect any apology from you at that time, Missrose, as you slink away with your tail between your legs, ashamed that you have been duped by the Master Con Man. Just realize that the day is coming. Obama cannot lie and con and phonily claim "transparency" for much longer. He and his presidency are going down. I just hope that he will not have inflicted irreparable damage on our beloved Republic before that happens.

"Third, please stick to the issues."

Sounds like a moderator...I fail to see anything in the policy statement which says a poster need "stick to the issues." Please read the full policy statement...

Airborne.... seriously? You see nothing wrong with going off on a rant about how the complaints of all Americans about the policies of this White House must be racially-motivated? Seriously? I repeat: please sitck to the issues.

Seriously, I saw nothing wrong with the first rant from Rosemary Potter, your rant, my rant or any of the other rants written here. I repeat please read the full statement of policy and stop trying to silence someone who has as much right as you or I to write whatever they please, about whatever they please...Free Speech is a double edged sword.

Actually, McGruber, while I do not advocate any particular form of punishment, I most definitely support Barack Obama's arrest for treason; fraud; sedition; social security number/identify theft; and other counts, the details to which the public may not yet be privy (for example, the bribery related to Obama's two offers to award government positions in exchange for dropping out of U.S. Senate races against Obama's hand-picked Dem choices, including Michael Bennett).

It will be within the province of the Federal Court that tries the case to determine what the punishment shall be ordered following Obama's conviction on one or more criminal counts.

It is my hope that he will spend the remainder of his life in federal prison, without possibility of parole.

JustOnCrack, Airborne, and McGruber---

I wonder if it would be possible for the three of you to actually discuss a matter without the rude name-calling (to-wit: fool, stupid, etc.)

The behavior and recent posts of all three of you violate the rules of this thread, and I hope that the moderator catches that fact and deletes all of your rude, inappropriate, name-calling.

Now, if you three disagree with anything that I have posted, please respond rationally and maturely, and present your logical case for a contrary view.

I usually don’t pay much attention to musicians political ramblings, however the statements by a musician, Kid Rock, the other day, did have some relevant points.

On CNN "Piers Morgan Tonight", Piers Morgan interviewed Kid Rock about music and politics. The wide-ranging interview spent time on if he was a Republican? While he said he leaned right in some areas, he said "We don't want a bunch of bible-thumpers...and we don't want a bunch of pot- smoking hippies" in office. Which seems to demonstrate the dilemma we have with our political system today…no representation of the normal people.

Normal people don't have access to those in Congress, lobbyists do.

Rosemary Potter asking for Barack Obama to be impeached got me to thinking. What has the Republican party done for us sense their big wins last elections?

In Colorado it was republicans that wanted to take school meals from the poor.

All across the nation it is the same thing.A war on the middle class, poor and women's rights.

Two states want to make it legal to kill abortion doctors. In South Dakota it is House Bill 1171sponsored by state Rep. Phil Jensen. In Nebraska it is LB 232, introduced by state Sen. Mark Christensen, a devout Christian and die-hard abortion foe who is opposed to the prodedure even in the case of rape. Unlike its South Dakota counterpart, which would have allowed only a pregnant woman, her husband, her parents, or her children to commit “justifiable homicide” in defense of her fetus, the Nebraska bill would apply to any third party.

So far this year Oklahoma, Tennessee and Florida have all had anti evolution bills sponsored by republicans. If passed all will cost the states schools money in court.Money they don't have as all these states are also slashing public school spending by millions.

We also see the continued republican attack on Planned Parenthood. This will end pay for birth control, screening and treatment for sexually transmitted diseases, breast and cervical cancer testing, prenatal care, sex education and vasectomies for men.

IMO, not only will President Barack Obama not be impeached. His odds of being re-elected as president are going up.If it happens thank the Republicans on going war on the middle class as the reason.
