If you go
What: Annual State of the County event hosted by the Craig Chamber of Commerce
When: 6 p.m. tonight
Where: Holiday Inn of Craig, 300 S. Colorado Highway 13
— Scheduled speakers include Gov. John Hickenlooper, Moffat County Commissioner Audrey Danner, Craig Mayor Don Jones, and Chamber members Joe Bird and Mardi Anson. Tickets to the event cost $40 for Chamber members and $50 for non-members.
As far as Christina Oxley is concerned, having Gov. John Hickenlooper as the keynote speaker at the Craig Chamber of Commerce’s State of the County event is a logical move.
“It rounds it out,” said Oxley, the Chamber’s executive director. “It’s always been State of the Chamber, the State of the City, the State of the County. It just makes reasonable sense to top that off with State of the State.”
Hickenlooper is one of numerous leaders scheduled to speak at the event, which begins at 6 p.m. at the Holiday Inn of Craig, 300 S. Colorado Highway 13.
Also scheduled to speak are Moffat County Commissioner Audrey Danner, Craig Mayor Don Jones, and Chamber board members Joe Bird and Mardi Anson, Oxley said.
Tickets for the event must be purchased beforehand and will not be sold at the door, Oxley said.
Tickets can be purchased today at the Moffat County Visitor Center, 360 E. Victory Way. The cost is $40 for Chamber members and $50 for non-members.
There will also be awards presented to the small and large businesses of the year, business person of the year and citizen of the year.
Oxley said the variety of speeches and honors make for an entertaining evening.
“I love getting that snapshot of what’s going on locally in government, what my tax dollars are doing, and being able to do it, not in a real boring venue, but in one where there’s a group, there’s good food (and) there’s awards, which can be really entertaining,” Oxley said.
Hickenlooper’s speech will begin at 7 p.m.
Oxley said there could be an opportunity for some event-goers to meet the governor before the program starts, although time to interact with him would be limited.
“I don’t think there’s going to be much of a chance for people to have a conversation,” Oxley said.
Earlier in the day, Hickenlooper is scheduled to participate in the second half of a “Next Steps” regional meeting related to his bottom-up economic development plan.
The meeting is scheduled for 3 to 5:30 p.m. at The Center of Craig, 601 Yampa Ave.
The state’s Office of Economic Development and International Trade is hosting the meeting, which is designed to help build a regional economic plan for Moffat, Routt, Rio Blanco, Garfield and Mesa counties.
