The blow required a trip to The Memorial Hospital’s emergency room for stitches. The incident reminded the governor of a recent, hot-button state political issue, he said.

Doug Winters concedes solving crimes is best suited for a team of people rather than an individual. “In my eyes, if you go through your law enforcement career just trying to do it all yourself and not working as a team, success is going to be hard to come by,” said Winters, the new investigator for the 14th Judicial District Attorney’s Office.

In the introduction to his book, “The Bunkhouse at Elkhead Creek: Stories and Verse of Present-Day Life and Living in Northwest Colorado,” author Les Hampton poses that question and then gives his impressions about a cowboy. “A cowboy today,” he writes, “surely owns a horse, rides, ropes and wears the hat, works with cows and lives in the remote regions of the West.”

Chamber prepared for tonight’s State of the County
March 9, 2011
As far as Christina Oxley is concerned, having Gov. John Hickenlooper as the keynote speaker at the Craig Chamber of Commerce’s State of the County event is a logical move. “It rounds it out,” said Oxley, the Chamber’s executive director. “It’s always been State of the Chamber, the State of the City, the State of the County. It just makes reasonable sense to top that off with State of the State.”

Editorial: Back to bargaining
March 9, 2011
It’s an issue that won’t go away — stalled negotiations between the City of Craig and Moffat County Commission regarding a lease agreement at the Moffat County Public Safety Center. Months of meetings have done little to resolve the issue, and the clock is ticking toward the current agreement expiring and the Craig Police Department being left in flux as to its permanent base of operations.
Randy Knoche: Is county’s offer fair?
March 9, 2011
To the editor: After reading Saturday’s guest column from the Moffat County Commission, they claim they have heard from the people. Well, they haven’t heard from this person. Let me get these numbers straight: they want the city to pay between $700,000 and $1 million for a building that we as taxpayers are already paying for and have been for almost 10 years.

Annie’s Mailbox for March 9, 2011: Worries about sexual predators preventing male babysitters
March 9, 2011
Are there any signs to look for to determine whether someone is a sexual predator? I have always heard that when it comes to young children being sexually abused, it is usually a close relative or friend. I have a 6-month-old daughter who has five uncles. I am scared to leave her with any man other than her father, so I refuse to allow any male to baby-sit her. Is this irrational?
