As of Tuesday afternoon, Craig resident Steven Sharp was still listed in critical condition at St. Mary’s Hospital in Grand Junction. Hospital spokesperson Deborah Dawes said federal patient privacy laws prevent her from releasing any more information on Sharp’s condition.
Sharp, 19, was injured Sunday during a race at Thunder Ridge Motor Sports Park south of Craig. The race, which was the first of the day, was an open class race, volunteer Julie Dempster said.
Open class races include riders of all experience levels. Dempster said she doesn’t know the extent of Sharp’s racing experience.
No other racers were involved in the crash.
Sharp was transported to The Memorial Hospital in Craig by ambulance and later transferred to St. Mary’s. Volunteers at Thunder Ridge said Sharp suffered an apparent head and neck injury. At the time of the accident, Sharp was unconscious and had difficulty breathing.
Sharp is engaged to marry Kailee Greenwood, of Craig. In March, the couple announced the birth of their son, Carson Martin Sharp, at TMH.
