Briefs for June 23, 2011: Relay team hosts luminaria fundraiser

Children are invited to color a luminaria in remembrance of a loved one lost to cancer, or to honor someone who has won the battle, from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday at the West Routt Library, 201 E. Jefferson Ave., Hayden.
The luminarias will be lit during Yampa Valley Relay for Life on July 15 in Craig.
The activity costs $5 and supports the Hayden H.E.A.T. Relay for Life team.
Groups offering ‘excursion’ to learn more about wild horses
Yampatika, in partnership with the Colorado Environmental Coalition, The Wilderness Society, Bureau of Land Management, and The Humble Ranch Education and Therapy Center, is offering a fully guided and outfitted trip Saturday to those hoping to learn more about the wild horses in Sandwash Basin.
The cost is $100 per person and includes transportation and lunch. Registration is required by today.
“Join us for a full-day excursion to learn more about these majestic animals, their relationship to our nation’s heritage and what the future holds for them,” according to a news release.

Newspaper seeking hunting stories, photos
The Craig Daily Press is seeking photos of hunting adventures and story suggestions from area hunters for inclusion in its annual “Colorado Hunter” publication.
Story ideas range from features about generations of hunters to new equipment that is changing the world of hunting, and anything in between. Photos need to be at least 300 dpi and clear for publication. The Daily Press would need digital .jpg files.

Farmer’s Market set to begin today
Craig’s Farmer’s Market is scheduled to begin today.
The market runs from 4 to 7 p.m. Thursdays through Sept. 22 at Alice Pleasant Park in downtown Craig.
