Briefs for June 8, 2011: Republican Women’s Club meeting Friday

The Northwest Colorado Republican Women’s Club will host its June meeting at 11:45 a.m. Friday at Galaxy Chinese Restaurant and Lounge, 524 Yampa Ave.

Officers will be installed by Sharon Sollenbarger, past president of the Colorado Federation of Republican Women.

The meeting is open to all Republican women and men. Republican women are welcome to apply for full voting membership or associate membership.

Men may apply for associate membership.

Head Start taking applications

Craig Head Start Preschool is currently accepting applications for the 2011-12 program year for children ages 3 or 4 before Aug. 31.

Craig Head Start is a part of the Qualistar rated program and its lead teacher has a bachelor’s degree in early childhood education.

Reception to be held for Dr. Roberts

A going-away reception for Dr. Greg Roberts is scheduled for 5 to 8 p.m. Thursday at The Center of Craig, 601 Yampa Ave.

The community is invited to attend.

Business after-hours slated for June 23

The Craig Chamber of Commerce Ambassadors and Union Wireless are hosting a business after-hours mixer from 5 to 7 p.m. June 23 at Alice Pleasant Park, 550 Yampa Ave.

Dinosaur school reunion set for June

A reunion for students of the Dinosaur (Artesia) school is scheduled for noon June 18 at the school.

The event is a potluck meal. Organizers invite attendees to come early to visit with one another.

Suicide prevention training set for July

Reaching Everyone Preventing Suicide is slated to present Applied Suicide Intervention Skills Training on July 7 and 8 at the Moffat County Public Safety Center, 800 W. First St.

Participants will learn to recognize suicide and depression warning signs, apply a model for intervention, and how to link people with community resources.

The workshop lasts from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. and is free.

Breakfast, lunch and snacks are provided.

Donations are accepted.

One continuing education credit through Adams State College for the course is available for $55.
