Briefs for July 6, 2011: Preparedness seminar slated

A seminar on emergency preparedness, sponsored by the Bears Ears Tea Party Patriots, is scheduled for 7 p.m. Thursday at The Center of Craig, 601 Yampa Ave.

There will be speakers from the Moffat County Office of Emergency Management, Moffat County Sheriff’s Office, and Craig Police Department, as well as presentations by food storage specialists.

The event is free and open to the public.

Local group hosting barbecue Friday

The Yampa Valley Hens and Chicks, a local chapter of the Farmgirl Sisterhood, is hosting a community potluck barbecue from noon to 2 p.m. Friday at Craig City Park.

Humane Society to meet Monday

The Humane Society of Moffat County is scheduled to meet at 6 p.m. Monday at the Golden Cavvy, 538 Yampa Ave.

The meeting is open to the public.

The group is now also accepting items for its garage sale — all items are accepted except adult clothing and large appliances.

Sandrock Ridge seeking volunteers

The activities department at Sandrock Ridge Care & Rehab is seeking volunteers to play pinochle with residents and who would like to help with the care of outdoor plants for the summer.

Anyone who has a talent they would like to share with the residents is also invited to inquire.
