Sports Briefs for Jan. 29, 2011: Moffat County Thunder wins Loveland competition

The Moffat County Thunder cheer team, which is comprised of 16 youths from ages 6 to 18, won the Mardi Gras competition Jan. 22 in Loveland.

The team is made up of 15 girls and one boy.

The Thunder did their routine to a musical mix put together by cheerleader Jordan Porter, which included songs by Def Leppard and the Black Eyed Peas.

Head coach Valerie Davis said she was proud her team pulled together on the day of the competition.

The Thunder will compete next Feb. 5 in South Jordan, Utah.

Youth hockey teams compete in jamboree

The Craig Youth Hockey squirt and peewee teams competed in the hockey jamboree Jan. 22 and 23 at the Moffat County Ice Arena.

Both teams played doubleheaders against Ashley Valley and Crested Butte.
