Sports Briefs for Jan. 7, 2011: MCHS varsity swimming team hosting home meet today

The Moffat County High School girls varsity swimming team is hosting the Moffat County Invitational at 4 p.m. today at MCHS, 900 Finley Lane.

There is no cost for admission.

The swimming team will also compete at the Delta Invitational at 10 a.m. Saturday at Delta High School, 1400 Pioneer Road.

Basketball teams begin league play Saturday

The Moffat County High School girls varsity basketball team returns to the court this weekend, as the team plays Glenwood Springs High School at 2 p.m. Saturday at MCHS, 900 Finley Lane.

The boys varsity basketball team plays Glenwood Springs at 3:30 p.m. Saturday, also

at MCHS.

The girls and boys junior varsity basketball teams play at 11 a.m. and 12:30 p.m., respectively.

Admission to all four games is $4 for students and $5 for adults.

Craig Red Dogs hosting hockey tournament

The Craig Red Dogs men’s hockey team will host the 17th Annual Yampa Valley Invitational starting at 5:45 p.m. today and ending after the championship game at 9:45 a.m. Sunday.

The invitational will take place at the Moffat County Ice Arena, 600 Ranney St. Admission is free.

Games will begin again at 6:45 a.m. Saturday and last through the day until the last game at 11:30 p.m.

A skills competition will take place at 8:15 p.m. Saturday. A Junior A hockey player, a division I collegiate hockey player and an ex-NHL player from Grand Junction will compete in the competition.

The third-place and first-place games will be played at 8:30 and 9:45 a.m. Sunday, respectively.

Bulldogs wrestling team in Las Vegas

The Moffat County High School varsity wrestling team is in action in the Las Vegas Tournament at 2 p.m. today and 9 a.m. Saturday at Centennial High School in Nevada.
