The Craig/Moffat Economic Development Partnership is seeking community input as it works on updating the county’s economic development plan.
“We want to have the buy-in and the input from not only business organizations, but those other organizations that aren’t normally incorporated with economic development,” said Chris Jones, an EDP Board member and chairman of the organization’s Strategic Plan Committee.
EDP has an economic development plan in place, but it is being revised as part of a statewide effort. The agency is seeking to inform the public about the existing plan, and gather feedback about possible revisions.
A public meeting date has been targeted for Feb. 22, but the time and location have yet to be confirmed.
Feedback can also be submitted online until Feb. 14 to Jones by e-mailing him at email@example.com.
Questions EDP members are hoping to address include what the county’s measurable goals should be, what the area’s economic strengths, weaknesses and threats are, and how the state can partner with the county to achieve its goals.
“Personally, I’m interested in their theories on ways to diversify the economy and then also, at the same time, see what they think the obstacles are that prevent Craig from diversification or growing,” Jones said. “When you have these long-times business owners, it’s just such a valuable resource.”
Jones also said the process will involve segments of the community beyond businesses that could provide valuable input or have significant impact on economic development.
“If businesses see our scores and schools being an issue to people moving here, then we need to have the (Moffat County School District) on board,” Jones said. “Or, if they see that quality health care is an issue, then we want The Memorial Hospital on board.
“I’m not saying there’s not quality health care here, I’m just saying when you look at economic development, there’s a lot of ancillary components that people don’t correlate to growing jobs.”
