- Fire destroys mobile home in Craig

- A mobile home in the 600 block of East Fourth Street caught fire this afternoon in Craig, leaving the residence uninhabitable. The fire was reported about 1:38 p.m. Craig Fire/Rescue responded to the scene with about 18 firefighters and had the fire extinguished within an hour.

- Before Thursday, rookies graduating from Craig Fire/Rescue’s annual academy had been recognized in front of their spouses and peers at the department’s annual Christmas party. For the four-man class of 2010, chief Bill Johnston decided to go in a different direction. Instead, the graduates were given a ceremony to receive their badges in front of their families at the fire station.

- The Museum of Northwest Colorado is preparing to celebrate Moffat County’s centennial with three new exhibits and a county birthday party this month. “There will be a lot of new things that we haven’t had at all before,” museum director Dan Davidson said of the new exhibits. One of the exhibits is “The Moffat Loving Cup,” a large silver trophy given to county namesake David Moffat in honor of his contributions to Denver and the state of Colorado.

- Moffat County High School junior wrestler Dru Nielson knew heading into regionals next week he would have to get better working from his feet. Thursday night proved to be a step in the right direction, as Nielson’s footwork lead him and his team to a victory over Meeker, 54-27. “I think I did way better on my feet tonight,” he said. “I am usually pretty passive, but tonight was good.”
- Criminal charge filed in fatal Montana crash

- A 27-year-old man allegedly involved in an August 2010 fatal vehicle crash has been charged in Fifth Judicial District Court in Madison County, Mont. According to court records, Louis Austin Schardine has been charged with vehicular homicide while under the influence, a felony. The charging document alleges Schardine “negligently caused the death of Sarah Fleming while operating a motor vehicle.”

- The Moffat County High School boys varsity basketball team begins its second run through the Western Slope League tonight, as the Bulldogs battle Eagle Valley High School. After losing to Eagle Valley 65-43 on the road Jan. 14, the Bulldogs get the Devils on friendly ground time around. The game is set for 7:30 p.m. at MCHS, 900 Finley Lane.

- We all have heroes, but mine are far different than most, given they’ve spent their lives in the gray area. Now, the gray area isn’t in your version of the good or the bad society has to offer — it’s the place you pick where free will and the need to live that way are your responsibility, and you accept that fact. One such person who has lived that way for the past 40 odd years is my baby brother, Gerald Kris Glanville, the toughest kid in all of Butler, Utah, history and holder of the number two spot on my list of heroes.

- It was a very cold morning, perhaps around 30 below zero. I was thankful I could stay in the house until lunchtime. The night before, even with below zero weather, I was part of a very enlightening Bible study group studying the Book of Psalms.

- Our children gave my husband and me a surprise anniversary party. They invited friends we had not seen in many years, including “Frank and Mary.” Frank and I were always good friends. We even had a minor crush on each other, although neither of us did anything about it. After the party, Frank and I exchanged e-mail addresses and cell phone numbers and have kept in touch.
