2 perish in Christmas Day fire in Craig

A fire in east Craig claimed the lives of two Craig residents Christmas morning. Charles Hurtt, 54, and Frances Burkleo, 63, died in a blaze that consumed their home in the 600 block of East Fourth Street. Beka Warren, Moffat County Deputy Coroner, said the official cause of death is under investigation. Services are pending, Grant Mortuary reported Tuesday afternoon.

New commercial development slated for Craig

Elected leaders in Craig and Moffat County maintained a positive outlook throughout 2011 concerning the local economy, and a new commercial development slated for the west end of town may be their reward for the optimism. Dave Costa, Craig building inspector and director of community development, said the city’ planning and zoning commission has approved a new commercial development near Walmart. A site package submitted by Stephen Tebo of Boulder-based Tebo Development outlines plans for a retail building on Lot 6 on the east side of the Walmart subdivision at 1830 W. Victory Way.

Craig and Moffat County community members “freely opened their pockets again this holiday season and filled Salvation Army kettles with record donations,” the Salvation Army’s Craig Service Extension Unit reported in a news release.
