Sports Briefs for Aug. 22, 2011: Annual Scholarship Fund Golf Tourney set for Sept. 3

The Moffat County Sheriff’s Office is hosting the 24th annual Scholarship Fund Golf Tournament on Sept. 3 at Yampa Valley Golf Course, 2179 Colorado Highway 394.

The tournament, which begins at 7:30 a.m., will be a four-person scramble.

The entry fee is $40 per person plus green fees for non-members. Two mulligans per player may be purchased before the start of the tournament.

First-, second- and third-place teams in both net and gross divisions will receive pro shop credits. Prizes will also be rewarded for closest to the pin and straightest drives.

All skill levels are welcome.

Proceeds benefit Moffat County High School graduates.

Entry forms may be picked up at the golf course or by calling Rick Holford at 826-2308.

Online hunter safety course offered

An Internet hunter safety education course is being offered for all ages.

The course is online and limited to 16 participants. The cost is $20.

The final exam for the course is scheduled for 5 to 9 p.m. Sept. 6.

Cory Pike memorial tourney set for Saturday

The Wakonda Cup Fore Fat Cor golf tournament, a Cory Pike scholarship fund tournament, takes place Saturday at Yampa Valley Golf Course, 2179 Colorado Highway 394.

Pike lost his battle with lymphoma in November 2009.

Proceeds from tournament will help fund a scholarship in his name.

The tournament is a four-person scramble format and registration begins at noon with play starting at 1 p.m.

Registration is $100 per person, which includes 18 holes of golf, a golf cart, a tournament shirt, prizes and dinner.

The dinner and awards presentation will take place at 7 p.m. at JW Snacks, 210 E. Victory Way.

The tournament is limited to the first 144 golfers.

Hawaiian attire is suggested for the tournament and dinner.
