During a Tuesday ceremony, the Bears Ears Sportsman Club and the Yampa Valley Friends of the NRA awarded $2,000 college scholarships to two local students.

The recipients were Lindsay Yoast and Miranda Blomquist.

Yoast will be attending her second year at Western State College, while Blomquist will start her collegiate career this fall at the University of Wyoming.

Both women have participated in 4-H shooting sports and competed at the state level. Blomquist also competed nationally this spring.

The Yampa Valley Friends of the NRA raises money every year for education, the promotion of shooting sports, and the upkeep and improvement of shooting facilities such as the Craig Trap Club and the Bears Ears Sportsman Club.

The Yampa Valley Friends of the NRA’s main fundraiser is an annual banquet.

The chapter receives an approximate return of 50-percent of its money back to the Yampa Valley area, with the rest being funded to the NRA and national educational programs.

The Yampa Valley Friends of the NRA’s 16th annual banquet is scheduled for 7 p.m. Oct. 1 at the Boys & Girls Club of Craig. The $35 ticket buys a prime rib and salmon dinner.

For more information about the banquet, call one of the following committee members: Andy or Karol Bullen at 824-8407, Paul Bishop at 824-3949, Virginia Pugh at 824-8711, Craig Rummel at 824-7538, or Nina Van Wagenen at 326-7749.
