Sports Briefs for Aug. 15, 2011: Charity shoot slated for Sept. 25

The third annual Lorna Lou Farrow Memorial Charity Shoot takes place Sept. 25 at Rout County Rifle Club, about two miles west of Steamboat Springs on U.S. Highway 40.

The event runs from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.

There will be ranges from archery to muzzle loading, a silent auction and a meal fundraiser for 4-H.

The cost is $30 for the first adult, $15 for the second adult and $10 for any additional participants.

Participants will receive a canvas bag as well as eye and ear protection.

Cory Pike memorial tourney set for Aug. 27

The Wakonda Cup Fore Fat Cor golf tournament, a Cory Pike scholarship fund tournament, takes place Aug. 27 at Yampa Valley Golf Course, 2179 Colorado Highway 394.

Pike lost his battle with lymphoma in November 2009. Proceeds of the tournament will help fund a scholarship in his name.

The tournament is played in a four-person scramble format.

Registration begins at noon, with play starting at 1 p.m.

Registration is $100 per person, which includes 18 holes of golf, a golf cart, a tournament shirt, prizes and dinner.

The dinner and awards presentation will take place at 7 p.m. at JW Snacks, 210 E. Victory Way.

The tournament is limited to the first 144 golfers.

Hawaiian attire is suggested for the tournament and dinner.

Club Championship set for weekend

The 2011 Men’s and Ladies Club Championship golf tournament is scheduled for Saturday and Sunday at Yampa Valley Golf Course, 2179 Colorado Highway 394.

Tee times start at 7 a.m. Saturday and 8:30 a.m. Sunday. Players make their own tee times.

Players must be part of the men’s or ladies club to play.

The deadline to register for the Club Championship is Friday.

Registration is $50 and includes golf prizes and a barbecue Sunday

There will be net and gross prizes awarded.

Any senior member may enter the senior open for an additional $10.
