Sports Briefs for Aug. 13, 2011: Club Championship set for Aug. 20, 21

The 2011 Men’s and Ladies Club Championship golf tournament is scheduled for Aug. 20 and 21 at Yampa Valley Golf Course, 2179 Colorado Highway 394.

Tee times start at 7 a.m. Aug. 20 and 8:30 a.m. Aug. 21. Players make their own tee time and foursome playing group for the tournament.

Players must be part of the men’s or ladies club to play.

Golfers have until Sunday to join either club. Men’s club is $50 and ladies club is $60.

The deadline to register for the Club Championship is Aug. 19.

Registration is $50 and includes golf prizes and a barbecue Aug. 21.

There will be net and gross prizes awarded.

Any senior member may enter the senior open for an additional $10.

Annual charity shoot slated for Sept. 25

The third annual Lorna Lou Farrow Memorial Charity Shoot takes place Sept. 25 at Rout County Rifle Club, about two miles west of Steamboat Springs on U.S. Highway 40.

The event runs from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.

There will be ranges from archery to muzzle loading, a silent auction and a meal fundraiser for 4-H.

The cost is $30 for the first adult, $15 for the second adult and $10 for any additional participants.

Participants will receive a canvas bag as well as eye and ear protection.

Retired soccer coach offering free lessons

Francisco Reina, a retired local soccer coach, is offering free soccer lessons to players of any age.

The classes will include one-on-one coaching and are available to anyone of any skill level or soccer background.

Times are flexible, so any schedule can be arranged.

Adult supervision is recommended for minors.

Pistol shooting until the end of August

The Bears Ears Sportsman Club is hosting a bull’s-eye pistol shooting practice every Thursday through the end of August.

The range is located north of Craig off Moffat County Road 7.

Practice will be from 5 to 8 p.m., and shooters will need to bring their own .22 pistols.

There will be instructors for one-hand and two-hand practice on a 25-yard match course.

The first night is free for new shooters, and every sequential practice will be $2 per shooter.
