Sports Briefs for August 8, 2011: MCHS volleyball dates this week

The Moffat County High School volleyball coaches will be conducting a preseason conditioning camp today through Thursday this week.

The camp will run from 6 to 8 p.m. each day.

All players who are interested in being part of the varsity, junior varsity or C-team are encouraged to attend.

On Thursday, the MCHS volleyball coaches will host a parents and players’ meeting for any girls who plan to go out for any of the three teams.

The meeting will begin at 5:15 p.m. in the MCHS cafeteria.

Official team practices and tryouts begin Aug. 15.

Cory Pike memorial tourney set for Aug. 27

The Wakonda Cup Fore Fat Cor golf tournament, a Cory Pike scholarship fund tournament, takes place Aug. 27 at Yampa Valley Golf Course, 2179 Colorado Highway 394.

Pike lost his battle with

lymphoma in November 2009. The proceeds of this tournament will help fund a scholarship in his name.

The tournament is a four-person scramble format and registration will begin at noon with play starting at 1 p.m.

Registration is $100 per person, which includes 18 holes of golf, a golf cart, a tournament shirt, prizes and dinner.

The dinner and awards presentation will take place at 7 p.m. at JW Snacks, 210 E. Victory Way.

The tournament is limited to the first 144 golfers.

Hawaiian attire is suggested for the tournament and dinner.

Legion, Lions Club to host golf tournament

The American Legion Post 62 and Craig Lions Club golf tournament is scheduled for Saturday at Yampa Valley Golf Course, 2179 Colorado Highway 394.

The tournament begins at 10 a.m.

The entry fee is $15 per player and includes 18 holes of golf, green fees and a golf cart.

A Ribeye steak dinner is also available for $15 per person, and a raffle will take place during the tournament.

The tournament is limited to the first 120 paid entries.

The deadline to register is 5 p.m. Monday, or when the tournament is full.

Cash prizes will be awarded to the first-, second- and third-place teams.
