Over A Cup: Calling out for cabbage rolls and smoothie recipes
To make “Favorite Smoothie,” you’ll need:
• 8-ounce container of your favorite-flavored yogurt
• 12 ounces of your favorite juice
• 1 medium banana
• ½ cup frozen blueberries
• ½ cup frozen strawberries
• ½ cup frozen cherries
• 1 teaspoon vanilla
Place all of the ingredients in a blender or smoothie maker. Turn the blender to “liquefy” and blend until all fruit is pureed. Serve immediately or freeze. Makes two 8-ounce servings.
A reader recently called to see if I knew of a cabbage roll recipe that had either vinegar or lemon juice in the ingredients.
The cabbage roll recipe that I use (that I keep in my head) calls for ground beef, rice, egg, salt and pepper, tomato sauce, and cabbage, of course.
So, I looked through my cookbooks but only found a recipe for “Sour Cream Cabbage Rolls.” So, what is your favorite cabbage roll recipe?
Also, last week Craig Daily Press Editor Joshua Roberts asked about smoothie recipes.
I haven’t been able to put smoothies out of my mind since — they sound delicious.
I went through my beverage file and came up with some old newspaper clippings (newspaper unknown). Among the recipes for shakes and malts was one for “Favorite Smoothie.”
I haven’t tried it, but the ingredients sound great.
(Josh, I don’t think you’ll be able to use your pan with a handle for this recipe. You may have to add a blender or smoothie maker to your kitchen utensils.)

Also on the news clipping was a recipe for “Peanutty-Banana Shake.” There was a checkmark next to this recipe so apparently I have tried it at one time.
If you would like to try the shake, you will need: 1/4 cup creamy or crunchy peanut butter, 1 pint vanilla ice cream, 2 cups sliced ripe bananas (approximately 3 medium), and 1/2 cup milk.
Combine the ingredients in a blender or electric mixer until smooth and thick in consistency. Pour into tall glasses and serve at once.
Note: Chocolate ice cream may be substituted for vanilla ice cream. Yield: 3 to 4 cups
