Sports briefs: WSL football results

In weekend Western Slope League high school football action, Palisade (3-0) and Delta remained tied as the top-ranked teams in the league after defeating 2A’s Roaring Fork (1-2), 53-13, and 4A’s Belen (N.M.) (3-1), 51-7, respectively.

Glenwood Springs picked up a win (2-1) against 4A/5A’s Fruita-Monument (0-3), 36-28.

Steamboat Springs (0-3) lost to 4A Montrose (4-0), 40-7.



Rifle (2-1) emerged victorious after a battle against 2A Olathe (1-2), 34-6, while Battle Mountain (1-2) fell to The Classical Academy (3-0), 42-7.

Moffat County (1-2) added a win to its record with a narrow win against John F. Kennedy (1-2), 27-20.



In other local games, Rangely (0-3) was downed by Coal Ridge (3-0), 52-8,

Hayden (1-2) lost to Grand Valley (2-1), 17-12, and Meeker (2-1) overcame Center (3-0), 43-20.

In eight-man football, Baggs (3-0) shutout Farson-Eden (0-3), 79-0, and Soroco (3-0) beat Plateau Valley (0-3), 27-6.

CNCC soccer team wins program’s 1st game

The Colorado Northwestern Community College Craig campus soccer team opened its season with a victory, defeating the college’s Rangely campus, 8-1, in a Sunday game.

Javier Contreras, Martin Ayala and Amanda Brewer led the team in scoring.

The Rangely campus will have the chance for revenge when the teams play again Oct. 3.

This is the first year for the CNCC Craig soccer team.

Team practices are from 6 to 7:30 p.m. Mondays and Wednesdays at Sawer Soccer Park on First Street.
